There will be no Guitar Ensemble practice during the holidays! It's been quite a year with all the performances and the SYF Competition. I am glad we made it through somehow.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the P6 guitarists who are leaving us. They pioneered the Fuchun Guitar Ensemble and to the P6s who stayed and fought the good fight with me, I thank you! Thank you (in no order of preference or merit), Jasmine, Hui Min, Tiffany, Wan Ting, Sze Ping, Mr Hadi, Kai Xin, Jia Jing, Aik Siang.
Please let me know if I missed out any P6 guitarist!!!
I think the girls will love this song.... And it's a very easy guitar song. Enjoy!

Hi all. The exams are drawing to an end, and we are going to choose our new President for 2009, either by democracy (students) or by by force (the teachers choose). Of course I'll rather have democracy. But if no one wants to step up for election, then we'll have to choose. More info after exams...
Meanwhile enjoy this eleven string guitar performance.

Hey guys! This is really cool and awesome.I don't know how he does it.It is like really fast.Hopefully one of us fuchun guitarists can do that one day!that will be really nice.Hope you enjoy the video.
I recently watched this movie called 'Once'. 'Falling Slowly' came from that movie. This song is so beautiful you can just close your eyes and imagine the sun rising across the beach. Have a listen and you'll know why it won the award. Simple and beautiful, as are most things in life.
Our section leader Jasmine Yee of 6E prevailed against students from 15 schools in the North Zone primary schools to win the first prize in the Artopus Competition (VIsual Arts).
In a bid to email-alert all of you whenever I update the blog (so you do not have check all the time), I would like to request for your email addresses. You can either give me your email address through adding a comment, or if you want to keep it confidential, send me an email identifying yourself to my personal mail at wutzeshen@yahoo.com.
I am also doing this so that I can compile an Fuchun Guitar Club email list, that we may keep in touch with each other even after you all leave Fuchun in the years to come.
This is a simple piece for you to practice if you are bored.
It is downloaded with permission from the author's website. You can check out his website http://dirk.meineke.free.fr/classical.html for more free classical guitar pieces.

Josh Groban - the man with the pretty face and beautiful voice. He is one of the famous singers of classical pop genre (Genre means musical style). This is one of my favourite song. I almost wept a teardrop when I first heard it. Very inspiring and encouraging. Good to hear if you are down.
Dear guitarists who are involved in the school's Fundraising event (which means those who were in the SYF team),
Just a reminder that your practice dates are:
18 June 2008 12.45pm to 4pm 20 June 2008 12.45pm to 4pm 27 June 2008 3pm onwards. *****
For 27 June, it is a school day so rehearsals will start at 3pm. Afternoon students will be excused from lessons from 3pm. I will give you more details on 18 June.
Hope you had loads of fun doing your SA1 papers. Now it's back to serious guitar training. Please be informed that guitar training will resume as usual from 13 May (Tuesday) onwards until the holidays. See ya! ;-)
Photos of our strength!! Keep breathing in that music!! Here's wishing everyone all the best this coming tuesday!! Kempetai!! Our hard work will surely pay off!!
Hi peeps. Sorry for not posting anything recently. Been quite busy with work. Here are the group photos from SYF Rehearsal. Will be posting more soon. So keep checking...
Hi peeps. Just like to introduce you to the guitar scene in Singapore. If you play classical guitar, you must surely be acquainted with Singapore's oldest Guitar Orchestra, The Toa Payoh Guitar Orchestra. They have been around for about 30 over years.
If you want to continually improve your guitar skills, this has got to be the group you must join. They do a lot of public performances every year and they are continually on the lookout for young talents like yourselves. Do consider!!
Meanwhile, check out this performance by Mr Chua's student, the young boy. He and his father are both members of the Toa Payoh Guitar Orchestra.
Hi peeps!! We are planning to have an outing after the SYF, somewhere around June. It can be a music concert, performance or something music-related. I would like to hear from you guys if you know of any concerts or anything you want to do.
Out of 18 votes, 16 students were happy with the guitar practice and their friends in the ensemble. That makes a whopping 88.88% satisfied majority in the Guitar Ensemble.
I believe here are the main reasons for the outstanding result of the poll:
a) Friendliness of seniors (Tiffany, Jasmine, P5,6 etc..) b) Our humble and teachable juniors c) Passion and dedication of all guitar members d) Hard work of Mr Chua Teck Seng (who is in my opinion the most dedicated guitar instructor in Singapore) e) Our love for the instrument
I just want to say that I am very proud to be part of this work with all of you. :-)
Just to update all of you. When Hadi, Sze Ping, Yung Zhen and Josephine went for the audition at the Republic Poly, the judges were amazed at their playing. The judges commented that they played very well and they never expected that to come from primary school guitarists. I take that as a compliment and a milestone for us all.
By the way, here's a picture (below) that Jasmine Yee (our section leader) drew. I think it's beautiful so I thought I'll share it with you all... Feel free to drop her comments to encourage her in her artistic talents.
Mr Hadi, Sze Ping, Yung Zhen and Josephine will be going for the Music Marathon audition at Republic Polytechnic this coming Monday. If successful, they will represent the Fuchun Guitar Ensemble for the performance on 8th March 2008 at Republic Polytechnic. It's a milestone in the club's history cause this is going to be our first public performance!!! Yeaaah!!!!
Wish them well on the dashboard and in person!! They'll need all the love and encouragement!!
I stumbled upon this mysterious and marvellous way of making music. It's called throat singing, a technique which originated from Central Asia (I think). The person is able to make two different sounds at the same time using his throat. Whoaaa...
The first time I came across this was when I was watching this Japanese Swordfighting Fantasy movie called "Dororo". Below is this segment of the movie where the background music is done by throat singers called Huun Huur Tu.
Cool huh? If you think that's cool, check this guys out.
Nobody in my 27 years of life told me anything about throat singing.... The more you learn, the less you realise you know... Amazing....
Dear members, I would like to take this chance to announce our Our new Fuchun Guitar Ensemble President 2008. After much observation and consideration among Mr Chua, Mdm Jenny Oh and myself, we have selected our Fuchun Guitar Ensemble President. The President will be the right hand man/woman who will assist Mr Chua in the management of the section leaders and the members under them.
Hi all. A big welcome to our P3 Guitar Ensemble members who had their first guitar lesson today. Welcome to our big and growing family! We hope you will enjoy your years with us as we grow and learn together. I would like to take this time also to introduce them to our section leaders. Here they are.....
Tiffany is dependable and capable. The backbone of our ensemble. Very committed to the Ensemble's cause.
Huimin is the strong and silent type. She is also our pride and glory, the first amongst us to represent the Guitar Ensemble in taking part in the N7 Cluster Instrumental Competition 2007.
Our cheerful Jasmine. Always enthusiatic and bubbly during Guitar Practice. Also a very dedicated student of the guitar.
The intelligent Wan Ting is an excellent guitarist. She is also responsible and dedicated team member. A definite role model.
Sze Ping is a pioneer member of the Guitar Ensemble from its early 2006 days. Her patience in training the juniors and her committment to the Ensemble has been most admirable.
We are going to have our first public performance at Republic Polytechnic on 8th March 2008. Yeaaaa!!! Aren't you all excited!!! Finally a chance to show off your skills to the rest of the island. Will keep you posted soon on the details.
We managed to recruit 12 new P3 members into the guitar ensemble today at the CCA Fair. Many thanks to Rachel, Hui Min, Tiffany and Jasmine for performing to the pupils. They took time off their studies to help out at the booth. (I hope I did not miss anyone out, let me know if I did.)
If you know any P3 student who does not have a CCA, encourage them to join us!!
This two links have many classical guitar pieces which you can print out and try. Usually a piece of classical guitar music will cost you anywhere from five to fifty dollars. The authors have given permission to print and use the music so don't worry.
An all time classical guitar favourite. The first video is with singing, the second video is the instrumental version.
Aubrey (Lyrics)
And Aubrey was her name, A not so very ordinary girl or name. But who's to blame? For a love that wouldn't bloom For the hearts that never played in tune. Like a lovely melody that everyone can sing, Take away the words that rhyme it doesn't mean a thing. And Aubrey was her name. We tripped the light and danced together to the moon, But where was June. No it never came around. If it did it never made a sound, Maybe I was absent or was listening to fast, Catching all the words, but then the meaning going past, But God I miss the girl, And I'd go a thousand times around the world just to be Closer to her than to me. And Aubrey was her name, I never knew her, but I loved her just the same, I loved her name. Wish that I had found the way And the reasons that would make her stay. I have learned to lead a life apart from all the rest. If I can't have the one I want, Ill do without the best. But how I miss the girl And I'd go a million times around the world just to say She had been mine for a day.
Check this video out. It introduces you to playing simple blues guitar. This guy is good and he makes it very easy for you to learn it. He will also teach you to bend and hammer techniques on the guitar.

In case some of you were unaware, our brave section leader Tan Huimin of 6E represented the Guitar Ensemble by taking part in the N7 Instrumental Competition that was held on 23 November 2007. She went up the stage, held her nerves as 200 pairs of eyes looked at her and gave a wonderful performance to her audience. Look at the photos and see how calm and composed she was. Thanks Huimin!! You have prepared the path for many others to follow. Well done!!
This blog was created for the purpose of archiving the beautiful moments and achievements of the Fuchun Guitar Ensemble. It also serves as a platform for all ex and current Fuchunian guitarists to keep in touch. All Fuchun students and members of the public are welcome here too.
