Dear members, I would like to take this chance to announce our Our new Fuchun Guitar Ensemble President 2008. After much observation and consideration among Mr Chua, Mdm Jenny Oh and myself, we have selected our Fuchun Guitar Ensemble President. The President will be the right hand man/woman who will assist Mr Chua in the management of the section leaders and the members under them.
Hi all. A big welcome to our P3 Guitar Ensemble members who had their first guitar lesson today. Welcome to our big and growing family! We hope you will enjoy your years with us as we grow and learn together. I would like to take this time also to introduce them to our section leaders. Here they are.....
Tiffany is dependable and capable. The backbone of our ensemble. Very committed to the Ensemble's cause.
Huimin is the strong and silent type. She is also our pride and glory, the first amongst us to represent the Guitar Ensemble in taking part in the N7 Cluster Instrumental Competition 2007.
Our cheerful Jasmine. Always enthusiatic and bubbly during Guitar Practice. Also a very dedicated student of the guitar.
The intelligent Wan Ting is an excellent guitarist. She is also responsible and dedicated team member. A definite role model.
Sze Ping is a pioneer member of the Guitar Ensemble from its early 2006 days. Her patience in training the juniors and her committment to the Ensemble has been most admirable.
We are going to have our first public performance at Republic Polytechnic on 8th March 2008. Yeaaaa!!! Aren't you all excited!!! Finally a chance to show off your skills to the rest of the island. Will keep you posted soon on the details.
We managed to recruit 12 new P3 members into the guitar ensemble today at the CCA Fair. Many thanks to Rachel, Hui Min, Tiffany and Jasmine for performing to the pupils. They took time off their studies to help out at the booth. (I hope I did not miss anyone out, let me know if I did.)
If you know any P3 student who does not have a CCA, encourage them to join us!!
This two links have many classical guitar pieces which you can print out and try. Usually a piece of classical guitar music will cost you anywhere from five to fifty dollars. The authors have given permission to print and use the music so don't worry.
An all time classical guitar favourite. The first video is with singing, the second video is the instrumental version.
Aubrey (Lyrics)
And Aubrey was her name, A not so very ordinary girl or name. But who's to blame? For a love that wouldn't bloom For the hearts that never played in tune. Like a lovely melody that everyone can sing, Take away the words that rhyme it doesn't mean a thing. And Aubrey was her name. We tripped the light and danced together to the moon, But where was June. No it never came around. If it did it never made a sound, Maybe I was absent or was listening to fast, Catching all the words, but then the meaning going past, But God I miss the girl, And I'd go a thousand times around the world just to be Closer to her than to me. And Aubrey was her name, I never knew her, but I loved her just the same, I loved her name. Wish that I had found the way And the reasons that would make her stay. I have learned to lead a life apart from all the rest. If I can't have the one I want, Ill do without the best. But how I miss the girl And I'd go a million times around the world just to say She had been mine for a day.
Check this video out. It introduces you to playing simple blues guitar. This guy is good and he makes it very easy for you to learn it. He will also teach you to bend and hammer techniques on the guitar.

In case some of you were unaware, our brave section leader Tan Huimin of 6E represented the Guitar Ensemble by taking part in the N7 Instrumental Competition that was held on 23 November 2007. She went up the stage, held her nerves as 200 pairs of eyes looked at her and gave a wonderful performance to her audience. Look at the photos and see how calm and composed she was. Thanks Huimin!! You have prepared the path for many others to follow. Well done!!
The first photo shows Sze Ping (the centre of attraction) demonstrating her guitar strumming skills during some competition which I cannot remember what its called.
The second photo during the School Opening Ceremony on 7th July 2007. The performers totally hated the costumes. And they had to wear make-up too (Poor Hadi suffered so much)!! But they still gave their best that night. A warm thanks to Mr Hadi and the gals!!!
I would like to know what you would like to see in future on this blog. Give me your suggestions. I would like to hear from all of you. All suggestions will be accepted and considered.
Have your say by leaving your views in the comments, cause after all this blog was created for you. ;-)
Singapore Arts School aka SOTA aka School of the Arts, is a really cool place to be if you are thinking of being a professional musician eventually. You probably eat and breathe a lot more music there compared to other secondary schools. Its the place for young musicians to be. The School of the Arts will offer a unique connected arts and academic curriculum for youths aged 13 - 18.
That means you P6 pupils this year. You can take your O'levels in SOTA. They are holding auditions this coming March and June.

I managed to find an old photo that we took on our first Guitar Ensemble concert outing on 2 Sept 2006. It was with Mr Alex Abisheganaden, a Cultural Medallion winner. What an honour!!
Mr Alex Abisheganaden is considered as the father of classical guitar in Singapore as he was the one who promoted it in Singapore, way back when no one except him knew how to play the classical guitar. He is also the founder of Guitar Ensemble of NUS (GENUS).
Those of you who are considering taking ABRSM Theory exams or just simply interested in music theory might want to check out the following website link.
